mumps?

Today I went out with Sing Yee for lunch and we decided on Nandos. Nice place. The walk there was such a challenge. The wind was so strong that it almost blew us off our tracks. Oh btw, 2 people died today because of the wind.

So anyway, we placed our orders and waited to satisfy our growling stomachs. When our food finally came, I realised I could barely open my mouth. It felt like the left side of my cheeks were stuck! I didn't think it was anything serious and just struggled to continue eating. As I ate, I realised the left side of my cheeks was swelling and it started swelling at an alarming rate. Like it got so huge and it was so difficult to open my mouth.

Still, I didn't think it was anything serious, but I told myself that I was going to see the doctor. So I packed up the leftovers and accompanied Sing Yee to Big W so that she could buy some containers. On the way, I decided to call Aiwee to ask her if she knew how the medicare card worked. And when I described the symptoms to her, she said that I may have mumps!

I was in such a shock. Like I haven't the slightest clue on what mumps is. Panicking, I tried to call my mum, who told me the same thing. She even described mumps to be some infectious disease. So Sing Yee and I rushed through Big W and quickly went to the doctor.

It was such a long wait there, and I'm very sure the 2 other people who went to the doctor before me, came after me.

When it was finally my turn, I sat down on the chair, fearing that the doctor would confirm that it was mumps. The doctor just ran some checks and after the whole thing, she told me, oh don't worry, that isn't mumps. YES!! Apparently, my salivary gland is blocked. And because this doesn't usually happen to everyone, I have to see a specialist. And I also have to take antibiotics.

So now, the left side of my face is SUPER round and swollen. And it still kinda hurts. And the right side of my face is still normal. So I look rather weird. Yeah. No point in asking me to take photo. I tried. You can't see the swell. Yeah.

And so, I don't think I'll be leaving the hostel unnecessarily, especially if the swell doesn't go down. Yeah

THANK GOD IT'S NOT MUMPS! (even though until now, I don't really know what mumps is)
